HBO: Black Lady Sketch Show”
Actor, comedian, and photographer Skye Townsend is making history as she follows in her famous director/comedian father Robert Townsend’s footsteps to star in the upcoming new season of the three-time EMMY Award-nominated variety series “A Black Lady Sketch Show”, executive produced by Issa Rae, which premieres April 23rd on HBO Max. “A Black Lady Sketch Show” S2 TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC4QqANWyrI explores the broad spectrum of Black culture and Black women’s experiences in America in a way that’s smart, funny, irreverent, refreshingly not that political, and also relatable to everyone – regardless of race or gender. Townsend really had to dig into her comedic acting chops when she joined the core cast this season, creating detailed mood boards for all 25 characters she plays in just 6 episodes. Other core cast members include Robin Thede, Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black, and Laci Mosley. Season 2 also welcomes a slew of amazing celebrity guests, including executive producer Issa Rae, Gabrielle Union, Jesse Williams, Miguel, Skai Jackson, Laz Alonso, Omarion, Kim Wayans, and Ayesha Curry. Townsend additionally hosts the uber-popular podcast Unpack ‘n Bounce Back with her best-selling poet cousin Reyna Biddy. Created during the COVID19 lockdown, the two team up to share their personal experiences and tough lessons learned while navigating through life, engaging in brutally honest conversations. Los Angeles born and raised, Townsend grew up visiting the film sets of her fathers and fell in love with entertainment. At the age of 14, she began creating her own content on YouTube and her videos impersonating Beyonce became a viral success. Soon music industry leaders were taking notice and by the age of 17, she was signed to Atlantic Records. She released an EP and her career path began to pivot when she landed the opportunity to co-host the official GRAMMY LIVE red carpet at the age of 20. This is where her real improv skills were mastered as she fell in love with work that kept her on her toes. She began public speaking as a mentor at schools, guiding youth to follow their dreams and be persistent in their goals. She began booking smaller roles, most notably as a guest star in “Lucifer” where she played a musician and actually got to perform two of her original songs on-screen at The Hollywood Bowl. Her own persistence paid off after years of building and working on her craft when she booked HBO Max’s Emmy Award-nominated “A Black Lady Sketch Show” executive produced by Issa Rae which features sketches performed by a core group of Black women. When she is not working or creating new content, Townsend spends time giving back to her community – whether it’s supporting disadvantaged youth or helping the homeless. She also is a skilled photographer and painter. We would love to set up an interview with you and Skye Townsend to promote the new season of “A Black Lady Sketch Show” which premieres on April 23rd on HBO Max.
