In a brief 10 minute video via his YouTube channel, Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade made known his intentions to retire at the conclusion of the upcoming NBA season. At times wiping away tears, the future hall of fame shooting guard reflects on his career path, family and expectations in an emotional heart to heart with all of his supporters.
Wade was a three-time champion, finals mvp, 12 time all-star, 8 time All-NBA and 3 time NBA All-Defense, but most of his accolades were usually summed up by his nickname “Flash”. Not only a player who could light up the scoreboard, the “Flash” moniker alluded to his burning passion for the game that allowed Wade to accomplish the unthinkable while playing the game that he loved.
Having played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and his hometown Chicago Bulls, Wade made his name as a member of the Miami Heat in which he will finish his soon to be 16th season. He looks to be the mentor and guide for a young squad of players looking to leave their own impact on the league. Praised as the best shooting guard not named Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant in many circles, Wade blazed his own unique trail and will also be remembered as one of a kind.
