A Final Farewell…A Nation Says Goodbye to President George H.W. Bush

WASHINGTON, DC – FEBRUARY 15: U.S. President Barack Obama (L) presents former U.S. President George H.W. Bush with the 2010 Medal of Freedom in the East Room of the White House February 15, 2011 in Washington, DC. Obama presented the medal to twelve pioneers in sports, labor, politics and arts. New York Times-Right Now: Friends and family honor President George Bush at Washington National Cathedral.

• President Bush is being eulogized by those who knew him best, including his eldest son, former President George W. Bush; his biographer Jon Meacham, and former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney of Canada and former Senator Alan Simpson of Wyoming.

• The United States’ five living presidents, dignitaries from around the country and leaders from throughout the world filled the Washington National Cathedral for the service, the first presidential funeral since 2006.

• President Trump has no speaking role at the funeral — a break from recent tradition and in accordance with Mr. Bush’s wishes.

The pomp, pageantry and military precision with which Mr. Bush’s funeral unfolded on Wednesday was a product of decades of planning and practice by military officials and the late president himself. American presidents begin the somewhat macabre exercise of designing their own funerals almost from the moment they are sworn in, the better to put their own personal stamps on an event that amounts to their final official act and message to the nation.

Marvel Comics Maven Stan Lee Passes away at 95

One of my idols the ‘marvelous ‘Stan Lee has passed. He has been the example of genius, passion, and the pioneering spirit. He had so much influence on generations until it is mythical. He was like that mentor from afar I admired so much. Thank you for all you have done to help us all dream bigger, look farther outside of the box, and look inward inside our hearts. Rest In Power legend.

TMZ reports

Stan Lee, the man responsible for much of the Marvel Universe, has died … Stan’s daughter tells TMZ.

We’re told an ambulance rushed to Lee’s Hollywood Hills home early Monday morning and he was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. We’re told that’s where he died.

Lee had suffered several illnesses over the last year or so — he had a bout of pneumonia and vision issues.

Stan started Marvel with Jack Kirby in 1961 with The Fantastic Four. He went on to create Spider-Man, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man and The Avengers.

Stan made cameo appearances in all of the Marvel movies.
