Networking Works, if You Work the Net!

I always say, “Networking works if you work the net!” You might be thinking, how much more can we learn about networking. As an entrepreneur or even corporate executive, you just might be “over it” already. Well, do not throw in the towel too early. Maybe the word itself has boxed you in, so let’s look at the way I have stated in my quote…”Work the Net”! If you are willing to learn how to strategically work the net (core principles of networking) then you will be able to grow your network, while increasing your net worth.

If your circle of influence, network connections, business affiliates, and partners still look the same for the past 3 years, then keep reading. If you are tired of running into the same people at the networking events in your local community, then keep reading.

Social Media networking is by far an effective means to expand your reach and grow your network; it has most certainly worked for me. It will grow your business and increase your bottom-line, with the right strategies and implementation in place. However, I believe it is a huge mistake for entrepreneurs and corporate executives to rely solely on social media connections to increase their network and expand their reach. Working the net is “a must”!

The 4 “C” Networking Approach will help you and your new network increase the bottom-line.

Connect

You must show-up to places other than your local networking groups and chamber of commerce. Make connections in other nearby cities, go to a variety of events, or pick up a new hobby/interest, have fun meeting and connecting to new people that otherwise you would have never met. Guess what…the people in these places you probably would have never met online.

According to Gelman (New York Times, 2013), on average, each adult in the U.S. knows approximately 600 people (of those people, only 10 to 25 they trust). Therefore, connecting and building a relationship is imperative. David Burkus talks about the power of friends in his TedX video “How to Hack Networking”.  The method he presents is relevant, because people buy from those that they Know, Like and Trust.

Communicate

Now you might say…”that is a no-brainer”! I have tested this key to communication repeatedly, in many different settings, so I know that it works. The key to effective communication is to make sure you Listen! Not talk, but…LISTEN! Greet them (strike up small-talk), and then ask them to tell you about themselves. At this point, you are listening with thoughtful intention to learn, identify challenges they may be having, and formulating your response that communicates who you are, your brand and the solution you are able to bring to the table.

Collaborate

As you are connecting and communicating with other business owners, look for ways that you can collaborate. There are many ways that even those in different industries can get together and complement one another’s products or services, based on a niche’ market they share (plus size clothing store and a fitness trainer). There may be collaboration(s) that are not obvious right away, but that is where your effective listening comes in.

Community

Build a community that is centered on your brand, interests or community service initiatives (mastermind groups, nonprofits, causes, etc.), and invite your new network connections to join. If there is truly a valuable connection with the person, ask if they would like to connect again to discuss how you can make an even greater impact together.

Your dynamic social media marketing strategies joined with the 4 “C” Networking Approach will give your network the jolt it needs to start seeing some new faces and new streams of revenue. Work the Net!!

Innovators: Jump-start Your Business Now!

Become an Industry Leader & Increase Your Bottom-line

Does your business need a jump-start?

Are you finding that your business is stagnating year after year with no significant increase in your bottom-line?

Question: When is the last time your business produced a new service or product?

Witty ideas, innovations and inventions are THE KEYS to Jump-start your business needs!

You can begin by creating an innovative environment that promotes creative thinking. Innovation is imperative to growth and profitability.  Of course, your business exists, because you have the answer to a problem. You may even also be very successful, because you have been innovative in the past. However, if you are not continuing to be innovative, your company will have the same problem Blockbuster did (closing over 9,000 stores over a decade ago). I think that is enough incentive to get READY TO JUMP-START your business with innovation.

Ponder these questions:

Do you know if there is a niche’ target market with a unique problem (that has not been tapped)?

Do you know what other problems your customers or potential customers are having?

Do you know if there are gaps in product lines or services within your industry?

You can do your research to try and get answers to these questions, but it is not enough to do your research and development internally. You must create an ecosystem of contributors to innovation that taps into the ideas of your customers, suppliers, business partners, employees, and business network contacts. Steve Jobs, Founder of Apple, Inc., spoke of his secret to maintaining an organizational structure that promotes innovation in an interview published in 2010 (attached). We know his innovation model continues on even today with the leak by Tech Radar of the new iPhone 11, set to be released mid-September. Here are a few tips for creating this innovative environment:

  • Develop a system to collect new ideas from your contributors (set up a link on a portal or your website and/or have a drop box in the office).
  • Monthly meetings should include brainstorming and small group mastermind sessions. Offer an incentive and reward innovation and celebrate success during the launch of the new product/service.
  • Survey your current and past customers for feedback or even give them a space to submit their idea for possible reward (if launched).
  • Look for the brightest and best innovative thinkers in your industry and pay them top dollar. It will be a very wise investment.

Here are a few things to consider before you Jump-start your business with innovation or a new inventions:

Assess Business Value: Conduct a feasibility study to include a cost-benefit analysis, knowing your target market and project how it will affect your overall company short- and long-term.

The BEST part about Innovation and Invention is:

Industry Leader: Your company will not only be “on the cutting edge”, but “BE THE EDGE”. Your company will have a unique competitive advantage in your industry.

Increase the Bottom-line: Your market share and bottom line increases with every new product/service that is in direct strategic alignment with your vision and brand.

So, get started creating…JUMP-START YOUR BUSINESS NOW!
